I first met Doug in the late 80's while giving a talk about high altitude balloons at the AMSAT conference (he was President of AMSAT at the time). He became quite interested in amateur radio ballooning and co-founded ARBONET (Amateur Radio Balloons Over North East Texas). Doug and I moderated the annual BalloonSat Forum at the Dayton Hamvention for many years and we would team up to launch a balloon after the forum. He was a great friend and inspiration to all. He is now soaring higher than any balloon could possibly fly. - Bill Brown WB8ELK
