My second Mom...

Mrs. Nelson will always be my second Mom. Patient, kind and loving. Most of my childhood memories involve her - growing up Laurie and I were inseparable and Mary Linda was the little sister I always wanted. During the summers we spent half the time at my house and the other half of the time at the Nelson's. We were only a short run across the street and we could do it with our eyes closed. For several summers our families rented a beach house in Galveston together, we would have dance recital parties together, and not a last day of school went by without a celebration and ice cream. Mrs. Nelson was always an English teacher - correcting our grammar and teaching us "big" words all summer long. She put up with us skating in the garage, waking her up in the middle of the night when we heard scary noises (yes, roaches make scary noises) rummaging through her drawers to find the perfect dancing dress, and letting us invent new dishes in the kitchen (Mary Linda's cheesecake always won). When I picture Mrs. Nelson I see an amazing lady - tall, beautiful and elegant. My life was blessed because she was such a large part of it. I will miss her dearly, but her memory will always bring me smiles.
