Obituary for Mary Alice Morrison VanMetre (Bridges)
Mary Alice Morrison VanMetre, 84, of Paris died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006,
in Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, in
Starrett-Rose-Roden Funeral Home Chapel with Evan Butler officiating and
assisted by David Ballad. Interment followed in Knights of Honor Cemtery under the direction of Starrett-Rose-Roden Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
She was born Mary Alice Bridges on Aug. 24, 1921, the daughter of
Charles Luther and Martha Almeadie Stroud Bridges. She married Herbert E.
Morrison on Oct. 26, 1940 who preceded her in death. She later married John
Crawford VanMetre on Sept. 26, 1973. She loved to crochet, quilt and she was a faithful member of Blossom Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert E. Morrison and John
Crawford VanMetre; three brothers, Charles Benton Bridges, Lawrence Edgar Bridges and Herbert Eugene Bridges; and three sisters, Dora Mathews, Flora Lewis and Lena Smith.
Survivors include her six sons, David Morrison and wife, Helen, Alvin
Morrison and wife, Sandy, Shelly Morrison and wife, Jan, Jimmy Don Morrison
and wife, Debbie, Lonnie Ray Morrison and wife, Deb, and Ronnie Clay
Morrison and wife, Darlynn; step-son, Dr. John VanMetre; step-daughter,
Leslie Loving; two brothers, Cleba Bridges and wife, Grace, and Luther Bridges and wife, Freda; brother-in-law, Udell Morrison and wife, Eunice;
sisters-in-law, Ruby Bridges and Ann Morrison; and 16 grandchildren; 15
step-grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Lynn Morrison, Marcus Clay Morrison, Joseph
Derrick Morrison, Lonnie Chad Morrison, Phillip Wayne Morrison and Shannon
Archer.
