John was a high school friend of my late father, Reggie Hubbard, who died when I was very young. John was one of those people who connected the dots of life for me. John was always friendly, smiling and he told me how much a friend my dad was to him - and that my dad would've been proud of me. I last saw John in a chance encounter at the courthouse in 2009 or so - and we caught up on 20+ years in just a few minutes. He was one of those people, in my estimation and experience, that set you at ease and made life more peaceful.
