Obituary for Richard Warren Floyd

RICHARD WARREN FLOYD, 79, left this world on Monday October 6, 2014 to go walk the highways and roads with his Lord. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Thursday October 9, 2014 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home following the service.

He was born December 3, 1934 in Paris, Texas, the son of William Lorenzo and Zoe Oreana Warren Floyd. He attended schools in Paris, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He worked summers while going to school at the Texas Highway Department, and began work in the District Laboratory in Paris in 1959. He became supervisor for the Paris Lab, holding that position until his retirement in 1993.

Richard was always interested in his community, contributing his time to coaching Little League Baseball and working with the Boys Club. He enjoyed assisting local law enforcement agencies as a reserve officer. He was a member of the Lions Club, and held a lifetime membership.

His passion for the outdoors was evident in his love of hunting and fishing, as well as the conservation of wildlife. He was always comfortable in the woods, and found he was closest to God in the quiet of the woodlands.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ronald Dean Floyd and Rodney Marcus Floyd; and a brother, William Franklin Floyd.
