Neva M.  Newberry (Whitlow)
NEVA M. WHITLOW NEWBERRY, 84, of Paris, passed from this life Wednesday September 7, 2011 at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 10, 2011 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Rev. Randall Scott and Rev. Eric Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Cemetery of Roxton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Neva was born October 30, 1926 in Deport, a daughter of Harmon C. and Lydia D. Dunn Betterton. She was a graduate of Deport High School and attended Paris Business College, worked for eight years at Westinghouse, then as a secretary at Paris Rubber & Supply. In 1984 she retired from First National Bank, where she was a loan secretary. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Associate Teacher, had been the Social Director of the Go-Getters of Adult 6 Department, and was on the Budget Counting Committee for several years. Neva was a past-president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and had served as a presiding partner of Get Smart Investment Club.

She married Thomas Whitlow on June 18, 1946, and he preceded her in death on January 15, 1986. On June 5, 1993 she married Robert Newberry. In addition to her parents and first husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Vera M. Rhodes, a brother, Weldon C. Betterton; two nephews, Jerry Paul Rhodes and Stephen Rhodes; five brothers-in-law, W.T. Newberry and E.J. Newberry, Bill Newberry, Bill Springer and Marty Joyce; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Betterton and Dorothy Newberry.

Neva is survived by her loving husband Robert, of the home; step-sons Bob Newberry and Mike Newberry, both of Paris and Brad Newberry, of Richardson; four step-grandsons; two sisters-in-law, Della Joyce and Doris Springer; a nephew, Ronny Cummings, of Sherman; a niece, Greta Moore, of Sherman; several cousins, including Bobby Kirkley and Beverly Fortner; and a dear friend since childhood, Jayne Anderson.

Named to serve as pallbearers are Mike Newberry, Ronnie Cummings, Derrell Cummings, Barry Cope, Gregg Hollje, and Kolby Wynn.
