She was born August 21, 1918, in Reamsville, Kansas, to Ransom and Thelma Rugger Colburn. While traveling to California on a train in 1941, she met Lee Andrew Denton Jr. (Lee Boy) as he was going from his leave at home back to U.S. Navy service in the South Pacific. In 1943 while he was on another leave and she was visiting him in Paris, he proposed to Jessie and they married two days later in the chapel of Roden Funeral Home before he deployed to posts in Europe. They later had one daughter, Pamela Ann, born in 1950.
Jessie retired from the engineering department of the City of Paris with 18 years of service. In 1953, she was a founder of the Auxiliary at St. Joseph’s Hospital, later Paris Regional Medical Center, and served actively for 60 years until 2013 when she turned 95. She enjoyed participating in Lee’s Lion’s Club activities and they traveled many places for those events. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church. She was blessed to live independently until she was almost 96 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee in 2008, her daughter Pam in 2012, her nephew Paul Gene Roden Jr. in 2013, great-great-nephews Raelee Parris in 2015 and Ross Floyd in 2017, and her siblings Leo as an infant, Max in World War II, and Agatha in 2013.
She is survived by nephews and nieces Suzanne Roden; Marcus and Sharon Roden; Anita Roden; Kathy, Randy and Kellen Floyd; Paul and Kate Roden; Kevin, Ethan and Jacob Hall and Tracy Scott; Ward, Laurel, Arden and Brink Hall; Robin , Jeff and Reagan Daugherty; Heather, Cory, Callie and Harley Parris; and cousin Sue and Joe Dolezal of Kansas.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Paris Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, attn: Lisa House, 865 Deshong Drive, Paris, TX 75460.
