Obituary for Annette Duke (Odle)

Annette Duke (Odle)
ANNETTE ODLE DUKE, 85, of Paris, Texas, died Friday July 1, 2016 at the Medical Center of Plano. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 7, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 322 Lamar Avenue, Paris, Texas 75460, with the Revs. Bill Coleman and Ed Dodd officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. The family will greet friends at a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Annette was born March 18, 1931 in McKinney, a daughter of Jimmie Jacob and Anna Maria Stiff Odle. She had a career as a teacher in elementary education, but her greatest successes came as a mother, volunteer, confidante, and friend. She was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church of Paris, and gave willingly of her time to honor and serve her Lord through her dedication and service.

She married Rodger “Bud” Duke, Jr. (Col, USAF, Ret.) on March 20, 1954, in Golden, Colorado. Her strength and determination, coupled with perseverance and love, gave her the ability to meet the sometimes stressful and unpredictable obstacles facing military wives, and her deep faith was made even stronger after the death of her husband on August 6, 2003.

In addition to her husband Bud, she sustained the loss of a son, Bob Duke; a sister, Muriel Yeager; two brothers, Jack Odle and Loren Odle; and her parents.

She is survived by a son, Bill Duke and wife Lori, of Iowa Park, Texas; a daughter, Kathy Moreau and husband Mark, of Oklahoma City; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Duke, of Arlington, Texas; three granddaughters, Alexis Carroll, Kelsey Barnes and Paige Moreau, all of Oklahoma City; four grandsons, Harrison Duke, of Burleson, Collin Duke, of Sand Point, Idaho, Cameron Duke, of Ft. Worth, and Samuel Duke, of Iowa Park; four great-grandchildren; a cousin, Leadrianne Murphy, of Dallas; and a special friend whom she loved as a daughter, Sandra Kelley, of Paris.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Downtown Food Pantry, 124 W. Cherry Street, Paris, Texas 75460, www.downtownfoodpantry.org ; or to the Cypress Basin Hospice, 707 Lamar Avenue, Ste. G, Paris, Texas 75460, www.cbhospice.org
