Obituary for Rafael Vela
RAFAEL VELA, 65, of Paris , died at his residence on Saturday November 15, 2008. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct graveside rites at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday November 20, 2008 at Evergreen Cemetery with Father Morgan White officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vela was born August 20, 1943 in Falfurrias, a son of Leopoldo and Severa Hernandez Vela. He was a graduate of Rochester , Texas schools, and moved to Paris in 1964 to work for the Steelman Welding company, then later retired from the Earthgrains. He was Roman Catholic by faith. He enjoyed gardening and yard work, and loved music.
He is survived by two sons, Carlos Lamire and Marcus Lamire, both of Paris; five grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Kerri Smith and Eric Smith, all of Durant, OK, Cherie Lamire, of San Diego, CA, Kayla Lamire, of Paris, and Annea Sugg, of Paris ; and an uncle, Merardo Salinas, of Rochester , TX , and his special dog Cheech.
Rafael was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nedra; by one brother, Leo Vela; and one sister, Lucia Cavazos.
