Obituary for Herbert Randolph "Randy" Taylor
HERBERT RANDOLPH “RANDY” TAYLOR, 72, well known Dallas attorney, and former Parisian, passed from this life on May 13, 2014 at the Sam Rayburn Veterans Hospital in Bonham. Cremation was provided by Starrett Funeral Home, who will conduct a service in celebration of his life at 2:00 p.m. Friday June 6, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery, with Mike Folmar officiating.
Randy was born August 21, 1941 in Dallas, a son of Herbert Frank and Ruth Elise Williamson Taylor. He attended Paris schools, then entered the U.S. Army, with whom he served his country honorably, and completed a tour of duty in Hanow, Germany. Upon completion of his military enlistment he entered Paris Junior College where he began studies toward a degree in Law. He transferred to Texas A & M Commerce, then completed his law degree at the University of Texas at Austin in only 5 ½ years. He opened Taylor Law Firm and had many very successful years of practice as one of the finest defense attorneys in Dallas. Randy was well known and and respected in the legal profession. According to Taylor he was the only lawyer in the State of Texas that was Board Certified in three areas: personal injury, criminal trial, and civil law. During his practice he was featured on the Television series “48 Hours,” and later interviewed by Barbara Walters on “20-20.” He was one of a kind, and loved spending his money on fast cars, beautiful women and fine whiskey.
Randy moved his law office to Yantis, Texas and made his home on Lake Fork until his health declined and he returned to Paris, the place he always considered his home; He especially honored his father and mother, and loved to tell stories of his early childhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother, Joe Welch, and his step-father Alvin Welch.
Randy is survived by his brother John Taylor; half-brothers James Welch and John Welch, and a half-sister, Libby Welch.
A special thanks goes out to his lifetime friend Barbara Jean Gentry; his former wife Helga Sims, and a host of friends who loved him.
