McConnell, a well-known preacher, writer and longtime editor of the Baptist Standard. She graduated from Paschal High School in Ft. Worth and received an academic scholarship to Baylor University. Contesting was her hobby and she won numerous big prizes. She was a two-time finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off in New York and Hawaii, and assisted many friends and family members in becoming winners, also.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two brothers, Marshall and Albert Seawell.
